KUZU

Brush making and woodturning

In contrast to Europe, there is still a very strong craft scene in Turkey. My project aims to connect and preserve traditions and bring them into the present. The aim is to create aesthetic, cross-cultural objects that convey a cosmopolitan and inclusive message and emphasize the social structures of craftsmanship.

My aim with this object was to apply the technique of brush-making to objects other than a broom and thus pay more attention to this technique. The result of this ambition is the KUZU stool. The fringes are not animal hair, but recycled textile cords that increase seating comfort. The underside of the stool is particularly important here, as it makes the craft of broom making visible.
